The Hive stands out from other designs with its innovative use of slats, creating a mesmerizing visual effect from within. Its unique properties include a 315 degree open front, allowing for easy access and a sense of openness. The dome is constructed from seven radii segments, each at a 45 degree angle, giving it a distinctive shape and structure.
The realization of the Hive is made possible through the use of SwissCDF, a high-quality timber material that allows for new applications in interior design. This compactly sealed, black-colored fiberboard offers exceptional properties and is the perfect solution for creative interior constructions. The dome is constructed by slotting together panels and securing them with dowels and connector bolts, making it easy to assemble and disassemble. The panels are created using a CNC program, ensuring precision and accuracy. Additionally, there is a wide range of color options available, allowing for customization to suit any space.
With an internal diameter of 2900mm and an external diameter of 3400mm, the Hive provides ample space for breakout activities. Standing at 2000mm high, it offers a comfortable and inviting environment. The dome is constructed using 13mm laminated high-density black MDF material, ensuring durability and longevity.
The Hive is the perfect solution for large breakout spaces, providing a unique and visually striking environment. Its futuristic design and form make it a standout piece in any space, while its functionality and ease of assembly make it a practical choice. Whether used in offices, public spaces, or even homes, the Hive is sure to make a statement.
The Hive project started in September 2012 and was completed in March 2013. It was designed and manufactured at Senator in their Specialist division. Currently, the Hive can be found in the Senator Specialist Showroom in Huncoat, Accrington.
Recognized for its outstanding design, the Hive was awarded the Bronze A' Furniture Design Award in 2014. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skill. The Hive's incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology contributes to quality of life improvements, making it a truly remarkable piece.
